Daria Dillard Stone
Ms. Stone has been the Program Manager of Parents Advancing Choice in Education – PACE since December 18, 2000. As
Program Manager the focus is in educating parents through the Parents Network (PN) operation of PACE, so they can better educate their children. Daria comments, “When people know better they do better.” Ms. Stone strives to share a message of hope. “In order to develop a positive relationship with parents (or people), I meet them where they are and expect a miracle.” Prior to her career at PACE, she worked almost 15 years in various capacities at The Dayton Urban League under the capable leadership of Willie F. Walker.
Daria is a life member of Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO) a national organization advocating school choice for all parents across the US. She assisted parents/leaders in starting the BAEO Montgomery County chapter (now OHIO BAEO). She is also a Life Member of the
Dayton Urban League, NAACP and the
National Council of Negro Women. Stone is a certified
Family Development Specialist (by the National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice & University of Iowa School of Social Work) and is a graduate of the Community Reinvestment Institute Alumni Association (sponsored by the City of Dayton and Human Relations Council). She has had training (as a graduate of the Black Leadership Development Program, sponsored by the Dayton Urban League & The Issue Nine Committee) in areas dealing with the Media, Diversity, The Church in Leadership Roles, Understanding the Criminal Justice System just to name a few.
Accomplishments as a Servant Leader:
- February 2010 “Woman of Integrity Award” – Abigail’s Journey Incorporated/Grace United Methodist Church. In recognition of her volunteer service to women and the Dayton Community (along with 4 other Servant Leaders).
- May 2009 “Mary Scott Legacy Award” nominated by Emeritus Bd. Member Carolyn Wright – this is recognition for going above and beyond volunteerism in the community and beyond. Mrs. Stone was one of 15 individuals honored carrying on the legacy of Mary Scott who started serving others in her home.
- February 2004 “The Heart of Gold Award” from the Eta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Lambda Chapter, in recognition of outstanding and dedicated service to the Dayton community.
- June 2003 “The Virginia Walden-Ford Parent Leadership Award” – an award from Children First America, for outstanding service to PACE/Parents Network and diligent efforts to recruit, organize, train and lead parents to greater educational freedom through involvement in the public policy process.
- June 2001 recipient of the "Kizzy Award" (one of 21) in Chicago, IL for community service, public image, professional achievements and personal integrity as an inspiration to others, and positive role model for America’s youth. Oprah Winfrey and Mae Jamison have also received this award.
Mrs. Stone is currently serving as a: Board member of The Mustard Seed Foundation, Volunteer at VA Hospice (in honor of her late husband), mentor/speaker for the YWCA , Education Committee Member with the Miami Valley Teen Coalition; member of Center for Healthy Communities/Kinship Caregivers Coalitions. Daria has served over the years on various boards or advisory committees including:
Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley, Big Brothers/Sisters, Inc., Miami Valley Adult Literacy Council; was honored (along with her 3 daughters) by the Ohio Department of Human Services as one of the Outstanding Families of the Year. Daria Dillard Stone is a gifted vocalist, is a proud/active member of
Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, where Rev. Chad A. White Sr. is pastor (with over 50 years service). She is the widow of Todd Stone; Sr. has 3 awesome adult daughters ( Keisha Varner, Katoshi Varner & Mrs. Billi Lytle Ewing (Toby) and 4 adorable grandchildren, 2 girls and 2 boys (Tobi, Braelyn, Trenton Ewing, and Kemet Floyd).
Above all the accomplishments listed above, Daria prefers to be remembered or known as SERVANT - a HAPPY CHILD of GOD UNDER RECONSTRUCTION! Philippians 4:11-13
